Iron hand in a velvet glove
Briestenská, Monika ; Hýlová, Adéla (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
Annotation What is a prison? What is its meaning or role? What does prison mean in the context of architecture? How did prisons develop and how did these changes relate to the development of society? And should prisons not exist at all? Prison is a very controversial topic, but it still affects the lives of many people. Former convicts face prejudice and social barriers and often relapse, which we should try to prevent. The work discusses the relationship of architecture to the correction and reintegration of convicts. The architecture of the prison should respond to the tendencies that have proved effective, follow them and together with them form the most effective correctional facility. It can be seen that the course of prison designing is moving towards a more open, smaller and more friendly space. Correctional programs in open prisons work with convicts on the basis of contact with the outside world, reintegration, through work, retraining and educational programs, where architecture has a significant impact, as it maximizes the chances of convicts to be rehabilitated and is inscribed into their lives. During the work on this project, a proposal for an open prison in Olomouc was created, which considers the stages of the correction of convicts and reflects the routine of everyday life outside prison. It uses movement to break the monotony of prisoners' recurring days.

The Czech Republic strruggles with a higher rate of recidivism than desirable. While the number of convicts in prisons is declining, so is the number of staff. Social work plays a vital role in supporting convicts towards resocialization and reintegration. Additionally, the thesis discusses factors that can influence delinquent and criminal behavior. Crime prevention is part focuses on the role od social work in prison, penitentiary and post-penitentiary care, and the use of treatment programs. Two goals were chosen for the practical part of this work: to find out how social work is implemented in prisons from the perspective of social workers and to find out in selected prisons what procedures, methods and techniques a social worker uses within treatment programs with assigned individuals. The research was carried out using a qualitative research stratégy, where open coding created codes that were further processed in the ATLAS.ti software program. This program was also used to schematically illustrate the results. The conducted interviews were analyzed, and through the interpretation of the collected data, it was discovered what are the specifics of providing support from social workers in relation to prisoners and what approaches, methods and techniques social worker use through individually set treatments programs. The results also highlight the challenges, limits and barriers associated with providing effective interventions. The contribution of this work is a deeper insight into social work in prisons from the perspective of social workers and also getting acquainted with the challenges, limits and barriers that may disrupt the provision of effective interventions.

A Personal Story of Drug Addiction
SEIMLOVÁ, Alena
The bachelor's thesis "The Life Journey of a Convict: A Biographical Approach" deals with the story of a man who was not only an active drug user, but also repeatedly found guilty of criminal offences. In this thesis, I also deal with the issue of the convicted man and the possibilities of rehabilitation. The method of interview followed by analysis was used to find out this issue. At the end of the bachelor's thesis there is an actual evaluation of the problems of the topic from all the findings and the sources mentioned. The theoretical part is focused on defining the concepts that are important for this thesis and encompasses the basic relevant concepts with the issue. These are concepts such as social pe-education, socially pathological phenomena, punishment, crime, resocialization and recidivism. I have further enriched these topics with the issue of drugs and defining methamphetamine. The research part focuses on an interview with a man who tells about his life journey, which was accompanied not only by experimentation with drugs but also by a prison sentence. The qualitative methodology is in the form of biographical research, which aims to find out what impact a person's criminal past has on his life and how to ensure a successful return to social life without signs of recidivism. To investigate whether the respondent's different life stages may have affected his personality. Throughout, I am guided by the respondent's key events that have affected him the most in his life.
The sleep hygiene in men serving imprisonment
HULÁK, Pavel
The diploma thesis is focused on sleep hygiene of men serving a prison sentence. Its main goal is to set recommendations for professional staff in terms of sleep hygiene of convicted men in a specific prison environment. A partial goal is to determine the quality of sleep in selected men serving a prison sentence and by what factors their sleep is most affected and whether these men know the concept of sleep hygiene and follow its rules. The theoretical part defines the concept of resocialization and also provides more information about the execution of a sentence. The main part of the work deals with the physiology of sleep and sleep hygiene, while there is also a list off actors affecting the quality of sleep. This part of the work concludes with a description of the most common harmful habits affecting sleep in prison. The empirical part of the work, using a quantitative approach in research, made it possible to meet all the stated goals, but the hypotheses set for this research were all refuted. However, one third of respondents (35 %) report sleep problems, 27 % attribute a negative share to falling asleep to prison stress and 34 % admit fatigue as a physical consequence of not sleeping.
Rehabilitation of men addicted to alkohol
PEŠÁKOVÁ, Ilona
The diploma thesis focuses on the methods that are applied in aftercare services focused on follow-up treatments and the associated subsequent resocialization of clients. Furthermore, this thesis focuses on the approaches, methods and techniques of social work that are used to successfully integrate men into the job market. Thesis is also concentrated on areas the communication partners observe the greatest success of follow-up treatment in the aftercare program. In the theoretical part, the first chapter focuses on alcohol addiction general. The second chapter deals with the treatment of addicts, their forms, types of facilities providing treatments and its progress. In the third chapter deals with the resocialization, types of aftercare services offered, the issue of relapse and recurrence and applied methods and techniques of social work. Areas of resocialization and its subsequent success are also described in this chapter. The practical part focuses on partial goals in the form of qualitative research, namely semi-structured interview. The sampling was selected by purposeful selection through institutions in the facility ALKAT z. s. in Jemnice. In the first part, I dealt with general information about addicted people - e.g. what are their family relationships and what was the reason for joining the aftercare program. The second part describes the procedure of the aftercare program. What are activities they are taking part of in order to increase their chances of successful integration into society. In the third part, I followed the approaches, methods and techniques of social work used in ALKAT z. s. in the resocialization of men addicted to alcohol. I concentrated on the comments of communication partners, who advised me of approaches of social work that are appropriate for specific men. The fourth part deals areas the communication partners monitored the best success of resocialization during the stay in the aftercare facility. It describes also areas where they feel the highest rate of improvement and what or who was greatest motivation for them on the path to recovery. Research has shown that communication partners have experienced alcohol since a young age. Each of them started abusing alcohol for various reasons. The reason for entering the aftercare facility was both the improvement of the health condition and the pressure of the family or the extension of the treatment due to the fact that they have nowhere to live. The treatment procedure was evaluated by all communication partners as appropriate and they were mostly satisfied with its form and progress. The research confirmed that each of the clients is unique, and they treat them with respect, with specific approach which is beneficial and helpful to them. The participants of the research survey stated that there are issues that they prefer to consult with a social worker or therapist (method of social work with an individual), on the contrary with regard to training skills and techniques or just a source of experience in fighting cravings the group therapy method is preferred. Related to this, the area of social work approaches used is mostly a combination of more than one method that is applied in the aftercare program in the institution (task-oriented approach, systemic approach and cognitive-behavioral approach). All communication partners agreed that the most helpful techniques are motivational interviewing techniques, relaxation and distraction of attention. An element that has a great influence on the success and persistence of treatment is motivation, which is different with regard to the diversity of clients. Success also depends on the number of treatments that clients have already completed, as the number of successful resocializations decreases with increasing numbers of successful treatments, which may be due to previous ineffective treatment, insufficient motivation, poor family or inappropriate social relationships and poor lifestyle.
